 Youth Food Show General Entry Rules
All exhibitors will be under the control of the La Salle County Fair Food Show Committee.
Time of Entry
All food entries must be at the La Salle County Exhibit Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2005.
Exhibitors eligible for entry in the Food Show must be from the Cotulla Independent School District, or children of a landowner of La Salle County.  All entries will be checked in through the Food Show Committee.  All youth must abide by TEXAS HOUSE BILL #72 (passing) to be eligible to enter.
All judging will be closed to everyone except the Food Show Committee and judges selected by the Food Committee.  All decisions by the judges are final.
Individual Entries
An exhibitor may enter only one item in each category and must have the recipe attached.
Each entry exhibited will be judged on its merit and awarded a First (Blue), Second (Red), or Third (White) ribbon.  The entries of Blue Ribbon quality of each category will have the potential to become the Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, or Top #1 through #6 Blue Ribbon winners.  A Grand Champion and Reserve Champion will be selected in each division and awarded a Rosette accordingly.  Top #1 through #6 Blue Ribbon winners will receive Blue ribbons and Honorable Mention ribbons.
All entries such as candies, rolls, cookies, etc. must contain the entire recipe.  No custard or refrigerated items accepted.  Do not decorate with refrigerated items, please.  Please use a disposable tray to display your entry.  Serving dishes cannot be returned.  Subject to the discretion of the Food Committee, all Grand Champion and Reserve Champion winners plus the top six Blue Ribbon winners in each division will be auctioned.  All other blue, red, and white ribbon entries will be priced and sold starting Friday, March 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 12, 2005 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Participants may view entries after 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2005.  ROSETTE AND TOP 6 BLUE RIBBON WINNERS' PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2005 AT 1:30 P.M.
Exhibitors are to pick up their awards by Saturday, March 12, 2005 before 12:00 Noon.  All student auction winners will pick up their awards Saturday, March 12, 2005 after presenting their entry at the auction.


 Awards Per Division

Elementary Grades 1-5 First Place Blue ribbon
Middle School Grades 6-8 Second Place Red ribbon
Senior High Grades 9-12 Third Place White ribbon
  Grand Champion Rosette, 50% of auction sale price
  Reserve Champion Rosette, 50% of auction sale price
  First Place (Top 6) Blue ribbon, 50% of auction sale price
 Youth Categories
Elementary, Middle School, and High School Divisions:
1.  Candies
2.  Cakes
3.  Cookies
4.  Nutritious Snacks
5.  Pies (fruit, not cobblers)
6.  Quick Breads (any variety made with baking powder or baking soda)
7.  Yeast Breads (any variety made with yeast)
NO CUSTARD OR REFRIGERATED ITEMS ACCEPTED.  Please do not decorate with items that need refrigeration!
 Auction Rules
1.  Students must abide by the Junior Livestock Show and Sale dress code (no shorts, T-shirts, etc. acceptable) in order to participate and receive money in the auction.
2.  Winners must meet at the Alexander Memorial Show Barn at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2005.  There will be a designated area to prepare and present items for auction.  If a student does not present his/her winning entry during the auction, his/her proceeds of the auction sale price will be donated to the La Salle County Fair Association.  STUDENTS MUST STAY UNTIL RELEASED BY CHAIRPERSON.  PICTURES WILL BE TAKEN WITH BUYERS AT THIS TIME.
3.  Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, and the top six Blue Ribbon winners will pick up their awards after the auction.
4.  Participants must write appropriate "thank you" notes to their buyers (forms will be mailed to you containing the necessary information).  Notes will be due Monday, March 21, 2005.  Please turn them in at the La Salle County Exhibit Hall between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Checks for your auction item (50% of the auction sale price) will be issued at this time.  Failure to provide notes at this time will result in the forfeiture of your portion of the auction proceeds, and the entire sale price will remain as a donation to the La Salle County Fair Association.
PARTICIPANTS:  Proceeds from the Food Auction are used to support the fair, build and make improvements to the facilities and support youth work throughout the county.
